Dedicated to serving individuals with Alzheimer’s and related Dementias.
It is about the participants discovering within themselves their creativity through art by allowing them to create and present their own works of art in a small group setting. They enjoy themselves and create art when all that is expected of them is simply to be in the moment. This is not an arts and crafts program, but rather a “communication tool” which provides a unique way to express feelings through the medium of art. Each piece of art is named by the artist and the final product is totally their own creation.
Their stories come to life through a wordless language and their paintings show us glimpses of who they were and who they still are. The uniqueness of this art is rooted in the focus on “self-expression” rather than the mastery of technique. The goal of having a creative art expression project is to improve the well-being of the participants, both those with dementia and their caregivers, and to help foster emotional connections among them.
The exhibit features the original artwork by Alzheimer’s patients in which the artist shares a vivid expression of a true moment in their life. By exhibiting their original art work around the community, one can clearly see how art plays a connecting role between family and friends in the celebration of life’s cherished memories. Each piece of artwork depicts a unique story which blends a “time in the present” with a “past memory” to bring about a very poignant and triumphant display of self expression. Through the Art Center, Face to Face, LLC is able to share the art with the community and shed light on the disease of Alzheimer’s and Dementia. The exhibit helps to raise awareness in the hopes of making new memories as each piece of art work is developed. Each piece of art expresses a touching moment, and gives us a glimpse of what once was a true moment in time. The artist expresses ownership and feels pride in the work they create.
